PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Dr. Eileen Borris is a highly regarded psychologist/educator/trainer who is respected for her body of work in peacebuilding, conflict resolution and reconciliation especially with ethnic and regional groups in conflict. Dr. Borris designs and implements training programs in conflict resolution, negotiation, dialogue, peacebuilding and multi-track diplomacy focusing on capacity building and strengthening civil societies. A focal point of her work is on the region of South Asia especially Kashmir, India including with the Tibetan government in exile and Nepal where she has worked for over 10 years. Recently she has also been involved in developing peacebuilding/multi-track diplomacy programs and forgiveness training/healing programs in Liberia. She also gives workshops on the healing of trauma, forgiveness and reconciliation within the broader context of conflict resolution and international peacebuilding. Dr. Borris has a special interest in working with women in development and has worked with women in the Middle East, India, Pakistan, Indonesia, Nepal, Liberia and in the Republic of Georgia. She is the past president of the American Psychological Association - Division 48 - the Study of Peace, Conflict and Violence and has been very active in the field of political psychology since the mid 1980's.

Founded Peace Initiatives, a nonprofit organization that promotes peacemaking and conflict resolution with ethnic and regional groups in conflict. Through Peace Initiatives Dr. Borris develops and implements training programs in conflict resolution, negotiation, dialogue, cross-cultural communication and multi-track diplomacy. She has worked in the former Soviet Union, the Middle East, India, Pakistan, Nepal, Georgia and Indonesia.

The program focused on young people aspiring to be the future leaders of Tibet giving an emphasis on leadership training and in understanding the Chinese negotiating behavior. Also developed and held a one day training program for the Tibetan Women's Association in Trauma Healing and Forgiveness.

Designed and implemented a training program on Women and Peacebuilding and Multi-Track Diplomacy March 9th - 13th sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Liberia, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Liberia and the Foreign Service Institute The training program focused on rebuilding Liberia, by providing training in conflict resolution, peacebuilding and multi-track diplomacy. The training also covered addressing trauma healing and included discussing the power of forgiveness on the political arena.

Designed and implemented a conflict resolution/reconciliation training program January 21-24, 2008 sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Liberia, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Liberia and the J. Oliver Duncan Psychological Association of Liberia. The training program focused on rebuilding Liberia, by providing training in conflict resolution, trauma healing and discussing different reconciliation processes including the power of forgiveness on the political arena. Training was also provided for the Foreign Service Institute of Liberia in Multi-Track Diplomacy. This training is part of a two year project which will expand upon this work.

The training program involved a total of 28 participants from the regions of Indian-Administered Kashmir and Pakistan-administered Kashmir to facilitate the development of conflict management and resolution skills and facilitate a peace-building process which included a dialogue and discussion of forgiveness which lead to transforming relationships and the development of action plans for the future.

Developed and delivered a Conflict Resolution Skills Training for the Democracy Building Program at the College of International and Security Studies. The program was tailored to the particular needs of a group of 20 military and police officers from Kosovo and Bosnia-Herzegovina. The program covered the dynamics of violent conflict and basic conflict resolution skills such as facilitation and mediation.

Developed and presented the module on conflict prevention and management to government officials and military officers from Europe and Eurasia and from NATO-member nations. The module focused on postconflict reconstruction and reconciliation, which included various post-conflict peacebuilding approaches including political, economic, security and social restructuring, dealing with past abuses, and national and societal reconciliation.

This included working with political prisoners, Tibetan nuns who were tortured and rapes, and appropriate staff in Delek Hospital.
